How it works

Three things happen at the same time.

When a student plays an EdGame game, the fun mechanic and the assessment aren't separate — they're the same thing.

1

The student plays.

They defend against monster waves in a tower defense. Placing towers pops a subject question. Correct answers unlock stronger builds. It feels like a game because it is one.

2

Data flows silently.

Every placement, every correct answer, every synergy, every recovery after a leak — captured as telemetry. No quiz interface, no exam room. The student never stops playing.

3

A cognitive profile grows.

5 ECD dimensions (Cognitive, Behavioral, Strategic, Affective, Temporal) update live. XP, badges, and topic mastery accumulate across every session — on any device.

The 5 signals

Five things a teacher wants to know — answered while the student plays.

Each of these updates in real time as the game runs. No test, no quiz, no separate assessment window. The 5 signals live today; a 6th (Social) ships with our multiplayer roadmap.

01

Are they getting the answers right?

Accuracy + response time, combined.

Fast + right scores high. Slow + right still counts. Wrong under time pressure signals a gap, not just a mistake. Teacher-speak: they know it fluently vs they can figure it out vs they don't know it yet.

02

Are they trying, or just clicking?

Real engagement, not just seat-time.

Tracks meaningful actions per minute — placements, upgrades, using the study button. A student who's disengaged and clicking randomly looks completely different from one who's genuinely playing.

03

Can they plan, or do they just guess?

Strategic reasoning + adaptability.

Diversity of tower types they place, synergies they discover, whether they change tactics mid-wave when things aren't working. Shows spatial reasoning — the kind of thinking a multiple-choice quiz can never test.

04

Do they push through, or give up?

Grit + emotional regulation under pressure.

How they recover after losing lives. Whether accuracy tanks after a setback or stays steady. A window into the "SEL" side of learning that report cards miss and standardized tests can't touch.

05

Are they improving within the lesson?

Learning velocity, second half vs first.

Compares performance in the second half of a session vs the first. Captures the exact "aha moment" moment a one-shot test misses — the thing that tells you a student learned something today, not last week.

+1

Do they collaborate? (coming soon)

Cooperation ships with our multiplayer games.

The single-player game doesn't measure social skills — but the pipeline is wired for it. The 3 multiplayer games on our roadmap add a 6th signal: cooperation, communication, and role-taking.

The Student Profile

Everything a teacher wants to know, delivered without a quiz.

The Profile tab compiles session summary + 5 signal bars + topic mastery + plain-English insights — refreshed live as the student plays.

Value delivered to everyone in the loop

For students, teachers, and parents — one system, three lenses.

For students

Play games you actually want to play.

  • Earn XP and level up across every session.
  • Unlock 10 badges: Cascade Defender, Tower Architect, Synergy Seeker, more.
  • Compete with yourself — watch accuracy, streaks, and best runs improve.
  • Pick your subject: Math, English, or Science. All Cambridge-aligned.

For parents

A window into your child's growth — through games they love.

  • Cognitive + behavioral + emotional dimensions, not just a grade.
  • Watch persistence, engagement, and learning velocity mature over weeks.
  • Share the profile with tutors or the school — one JSON export.
  • Peace of mind without pop quizzes at the dinner table.

Reach

Three subjects. Three languages. One student profile.

The same student can switch subjects and languages mid-session. Their cumulative profile follows them across every combination.

Meet Concept Cascade

The first game. A tower defense that just happens to teach fractions.

Students defend a "Knowledge Core" against waves of monsters. Placing a tower pops a subject question. Answer correctly — tower built at full strength. Miss it — half-price refund and another shot. Chain synergies for unstoppable defenses.

  • 4 tower types — each maps to a subject topic
  • 8-wave difficulty ramp — warm-up to boss battle
  • 5 tower synergies — strategic bonuses for adaptive play
  • 3 question formats — MCQ · Anomaly · Scenario
  • One username — sign in once, progress follows you into every game

Teacher view

An admin dashboard built for the classroom.

Not a spreadsheet. Not a Google Form. A real-time console with every student's profile, session history, and cumulative growth — searchable, sortable, and exportable.

  • Live KPIs — total students, sessions, accuracy trends
  • Per-student drill-down — full profile + session log in two clicks
  • Session inspector — every event, every timestamp, if you want the raw view
  • Zero external dependencies — runs on any hosting, deploys in minutes

Not another quiz app

Kahoot's fun. Prodigy's adaptive. IXL scores well. So what's different?

In "game-based learning" every product claims to be a game. What actually matters is whether the assessment is separable from the play.

Product
What the student sees
What the teacher gets
Kahoot / Quizizz
Fun UI wrapped around a quiz. Students know they're being tested.
Right/wrong per question. Real-time class-wide accuracy.
Prodigy / IXL
Adaptive practice ladder in a light-game wrapper.
A single mastery number per skill. Extensive, but flat.
EdGame
A real game. The subject question is a mechanic, not an interruption.
5 signals — cognition, engagement, strategy, grit, and within-session growth. Live. No test.

Straight answers

The five things every teacher asks first.

How long does it take to set up in a classroom?

Zero setup. There's nothing to install — open the site on any browser, phone through tablet through desktop. Each student picks a username once (no password, no email), and that same username carries their progress across every game and every session.

Do you replace my curriculum or add to it?

Add to. EdGame drops into your existing lesson flow — questions are aligned to Cambridge Primary (Math, English, Science) and cover the same topics your students are already learning. Think of it as automated formative assessment, not a curriculum swap.

What about student privacy and data ownership?

The school owns the data. No tracking pixels, no ad networks, no data sold to third parties. Sessions are stored with Better Auth (industry-standard httpOnly session cookies). One-click JSON export means you can leave the platform anytime with a full copy of your students' data. Formal FERPA/COPPA/GDPR compliance audits are on the roadmap for our first US district pilots.

What devices does it work on?

Any modern browser — Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge. Runs on Chromebooks, iPads, phones, laptops. No app-store install, no admin approval required. Works offline for the game itself (login syncs when online).

How much does it cost?

Free for pilot classrooms through the end of the 2027 school year. After that, per-student annual pricing with district-level volume discounts. Talk to us about a pilot for pricing details — the goal is to be cheaper than a single unit of Prodigy Premium per student.

Privacy at a glance

Your students' data belongs to your school. Not to us.

Only what the game needs to score: subject responses, response times, in-game actions. Never location, never device fingerprints, never behavioural profiles sold to advertisers. Cookie-based auth (no persistent tokens), one-click JSON export, deletion on request. Full policy on request.
